As Cambodia progresses towards development and modernization, the education system has started to lag behind, exposing many complications. There are a myriad of problems plaguing the education system and those that suffer are the students themselves.
We believe that one of the best ways to improve the education system is to digitize the enrollment process to universities. Cambodia has reached a point where a large majority of people have access to smartphones and the Internet. One of the biggest conveniences with using the Internet is that information can be accessed all from the comfort of your home. We see the untapped potential in all this, which is why Sala Enrollment was created.
The Problem
Starting from nothing, Cambodia has been able to give themselves a stable foundation for the education system. K-12 schools are more widely available than ever, and with the provided foundations, more and more universities are being opened in Phnom Penh. What hasn’t widely improved are the social status of a large majority of Khmers and the accessibilities to the universities.
Poverty is still a lingering problem in Cambodia and along with it are the missed opportunities for the next generation. Tuition fees can be really high for a lot of students in Cambodia and is one of the biggest deciding factors for students; whether they decide to attend university or not. This has forced a lot of students to leave school and help out their parents with work so that they can get by everyday.
Vital information regarding a school’s program, degree, applications, and tuition all are only obtainable directly through the schools, all of which require students to be at the school. This forces students to make multiple trips to every school that they’re interested in, expending a lot of time, energy and money that could otherwise be used wisely elsewhere.
The Solution
To take advantage of the progression of the digitalization in Cambodia, we’ve decided to bring the enrollment process into universities online. We’ve streamlined the process, which allowed for ease of use for newcomers and provided a smooth experience for all. Since the process is all done online, this can help relieve the schools of administrative costs, which could allow for tuition fees to be reduced along with it.
In addition to bringing the enrollment process online, we’ve also included vital information about each university: general overview, tuition fees, programs, scholarships and exchange programs. This allows for anyone from any of the provinces to gain access to these important information without any compromises. Not only would this ease students of having to personally travel to each school, it would also expose them to schools that they probably never would have considered before.
